What is a Dual Diagnosis Programme?
A dual diagnosis programme treats substance use disorders and mental health conditions as connected issues. Co-occurring mental health disorders are especially pronounced among people with substance use disorders, and conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD frequently overlap with alcohol and drug dependence.
When someone uses alcohol or drugs to cope with emotional pain, trauma, and mental distress, treating the substance use alone only addresses half the picture. A dual diagnosis programme works on both conditions simultaneously, so one condition doesn’t continue to fuel the other.

Why Integrated Treatment Matters
We’ve seen it too many times before. Someone gets help for their drinking or drug use, but doesn’t treat the underlying depression or anxiety. These conditions feed off each other. Unmanaged depression can pull you straight back into old patterns, and ongoing substance use only deepens the mental health symptoms you’re trying to escape.
It becomes a cycle, and it’s an incredibly hard one to break, especially when you’re only getting half the support you need. That’s why our dual diagnosis treatment in Auckland brings both sides of your recovery together. You work with one caring team, on one treatment plan, built around you.
Our Dual Diagnosis Treatment in Auckland
Inpatient Dual Diagnosis Rehab
Outpatient Dual Diagnosis Programme
Our inpatient dual diagnosis rehab programme runs for 3-84-8 weeks. You’ll live on-site, away from the environment and routines that have been keeping you stuck. The days are structured and purposeful with individual psychotherapy, group work, creative therapies, and time for reflection.
Our multi-disciplinary team meets regularly to review progress, drawing on expertise across CBT, DBT, schema therapy, psychodynamic approaches, and trauma-informed care. Your addiction and mental health rehab aren’t treated as add-ons; we weave them together from day one.
If residential care isn’t the right fit, an outpatient programme lets you access the same quality of treatment while living at home. Our programmes combine individual therapy and group sessions, available online, in person, or a mix of both.
Outpatient programmes typically run for 8 weeks and are ideal as a step-down from residential treatment, providing continued structure and support as you transition back into daily life.

I joined one of Clinic 77's women's groups. I was really apprehensive and nervous about talking about my stuff with complete strangers. I'm also a very shy person. However, I got so much out of the material we covered and I walked away each week feeling really hopeful about my recovery.
